Klepon (Sweet Rice Ball)
Klepon is considered one of market munchies, well-known in Indonesia and neighboring nations (Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei). When I became developing up, a few also name this onde-onde, even though the general public living in Java island might accomplice onde-onde with another sort of snack/dessert. Taste-smart, it's miles like mochi, with liquid palm sugar interior. Needless to say, you have to be cautious when ingesting klepon given that you can stain your garments in case you squirt the palm sugar. I reduce the palm sugar carefully so now not all will melt in the klepon. If you need a extra true taste, boil the klepon 2-3 minutes greater after it floats to have a liquid filling.
This recipe yields 15-20 klepons, depending on how huge/small you shape the balls. There are a few leftover palm sugar from this recipe, so I used it for my coffee. Yumyum!
Ingredients
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 3 strips pandan leaves, approximately 10 cm, bruised (optional, however it does make the coconut scent sweeter)
- 1 cup + 2 tbsp glutinous rice flour
- 1/4 cup rice flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 tsp pandan paste (it depends at the strength of the paste, so I recommend you upload little by little)
- 50 gram palm sugar (the strong type), reduce cautiously into cubes/splinters
- Water for boiling the klepon
- Mix grated coconut with salt and sugar and pandan leaves. Steam for approximately ten mins. Remove the leaves. Set to cool.
- Combine glutinous rice flour, rice flour, water, and pandan paste. Knead until you could without problems shape balls with it. If it is too sticky, add more rice flour, if too stable, add extra water.
- Boil water in a pan. Carefully form a ball after which flatten it. Add the palm sugar inside. Seal it and make certain there are no leaks. Immediately placed it in the pan of boiling water. If you make the balls in advance earlier than placing them in boiling water, leaks might occur, so make the balls and plunge them in water as quickly as they're equipped.
- When they are floating, scoop them and roll them inside the coconut combination. If you need a liquid filling, wait 2-3 minutes extra after they're floating.
- When they've cooled, experience!
